It is too long since I last posted a proper blog post. It’s also two in the morning, which makes me feel very writerly, even though I’m not writing and haven’t been for about two days so really I have no excuse for this. Except StickAid which I believe I’ve mentioned … if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll have noticed a lot of tweets hashtagged with #stickaid… hee hee hee.
Anyway, right now I’m editing Destroying which is rather horrible as my first-edited draft seems to have vanished. But that’s all right, because I’ve been rethinking the whole, Are fairies immortal?, question and I think I’ve finally cracked it, so I can rewrite all that stuff now.
So far, I’ve edited about thirty pages. This is a first edit so it’s not hard. Not really. The hardest bit is having the will to carry on! I’ve corrected a few interesting typos and dodgy phrases – apparently, my characters can sit in the front seat and stand outside of the cart at the same time, and glare and look away together too. So that’s fun. I always said multitasking was a good idea.
Still left to sort out:
– General typo correcting and rewording of awkward sentences
– Sorting out the whole fairy immortality conversation thing
– Sorting out the points when some of my characters start behaving very oddly (Leah! I’m looking at you!)
– Send to readers for feedback :)
It’s actually not to bad, as first drafts go. I know I’m saying that myself, but it’s true. It’s nowhere near as bad as some stuff I’ve written even though I wrote it rather fragmentedly (that’s totally a word) during Camp NaNoWriMo, which I hope means I’m improving.
I feel good about being thirty pages into a first edit. Then I remember that I’ve got Returning to do as well, and it’s two in the morning and I’m pretty much banned from the computer for the whole of
tomorrow the rest of today because I got up in the middle of the night to do this…
But I would really like some encouragement.
And some beta readers.
Preferably ones who’ve read the first book.
And some forgiveness for failing at blogging this week. Because you know, it’s StickAid. And it’s quarter past two in the morning. And I’m really hungry, but I can’t go get food because that’ll wake up my family, and I just really don’t know WHY I’m doing this but hey :)
